Business Bitch

Had an entry all set in my head to post about how some male writers mangle or manipulate when writing from the female point of view. I’ll save that for another day, because I’ve been working on the textbook business for a few hours now and I need to bitch about it.

Buisness stuff distracts me and makes me cranky. Partly because I sometimes feel incompetent and partly because it takes me away from what I really like, which is writing. Or reading. Have to admit, reading is winning these days. (Must revise that PW review NOW.) Broke my toe Monday and hobbled to bookstore Tuesday. If breaking your toe is not a reason to buy a bunch of books and lay around reading for a week or so, I don’t know what is.

I’m missing onground class today, but did the online one yesterday and will check in there for a minute later today. After I revise my review. Which I am doing NOW.

After I bitch about business for a minute to get the juices flowing. The business stuff started out bad today, but it got better when I began tackling the remaining tasks one at a time, or getting them organized as much as I am able. I need input from other people, so I’ll do what I can and then wait. I am getting good at reminding myself that there’s no rush. Things will come together in their own time in their own way. Or not. And then I finally had a fun part. I set up a Gmail account for the small press. That was easy.

I’ve been thinking of a couple of ways of handling the internet book sales & decided to go with clean and easy. No store. No order forms or invoices. Just a cover (Mike will replace the Octoberland cover with the new book cover) and a click to Amazon. That’s it. And other requests go to the email address. Easy. There’s more to it for classroom ordering, because that’s bulk, but I have also made that as simple as possible. Simplify. Simplify.

And I’ve been having fun envisioning what kind of workshops in what sort of venues I will give once I actually have those books in my hot little hands. Now that’s fun.
