I signed the contract for my first historical novel, a Regency romance. Meanwhile, I am slowly working on the last Jane in St. Pete book. After signing a contract, there are tasks to do along with edits. My favorite task is suggestions for book covers. I have worked with the same cover artist for a while now and she is amazing. I give some details and a photo if I have it and she creates a wonderful cover. That task (and all the others except the edits I’m in the middle of) is done. My editor expects we will be finished with all edits by end of August. I’m sure she’s right. Then I can work exclusively on Jane’s last book.
Right now, for Jane 3, the photo above is what I’m imagining on the cover. I have no idea how long it will take me to finish this book. I don’t have a deadline. Or a contract. The contract comes (with my publisher) after I send the finished draft of my book. I hope to have it done before the end of the year. Maybe I’ll learn some skills at the conference I registered for in St Pete in September that will help me go faster on this, my last mystery novel.
An Aries trait is to rush through everything and in that way I’m typical. Part of me wants to go slow for once, not rush, not even delay-and-rush. Just be chill and write for a couple of hours every morning until it’s done. That’s hard to do while juggling two writing projects but not impossible. It’s even more difficult to do on vacation…but I’ll try. We leave for Michigan soon. For a month. I’ll see my kids and grandkids! The Seattle family is flying into Michigan too.
And yes, I’ll be packing my laptop!
